PRINT RECIPE
- Combine the sweet Italian sausage seasoning with the ground pork. Mix well. For best results, let the mixture sit in the refrigerator overnight. Otherwise, 30 minutes will work.
- Bring a large saucepan to medium-high heat. Add 1 tbsp of olive oil. Place the ground pork into the pot pressing it into a patty. Let it sit on the pan for 3 minutes undisturbed. This will let it develop a crust. Break up the ground pork and cook until no longer pink.
- Lower the heat to medium. Then stir in the garlic. Once the garlic is fragrant, about 1 minute, pour in the crushed tomatoes. Mix the tomatoes and the sausage well. Bring the sauce to a simmer. Once simmering, sprinkle in your salt.
- Simmer the sauce for 30 minutes. When there are 10 minutes left boil your pasta until al dente. After 30 minutes, pour in the heavy cream, parmesan cheese, and basil. Stir well. Combine the sauce with the pasta and serve!
Expiry: 4 days in an air tight container in the refrigerator
When you add the sausage to the pan, make sure you wait until it is hot. The sausage will create the most flavor if it is seared, and we need high heat to develop the crust.
Prep the sausage a night in advance. This will allow for the flavors from the seasoning to permeate the ground pork. The salt will also help the pork stick together in bigger pieces, the way sausage should.
